How do I install Fjell on my Apple Watch?
Fjell for Apple Watch comes with the iPhone app. If it is not on your Watch yet, either:
- open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, scroll to Available Apps and tap Install next to Fjell, or
- open the App Store on your Watch, find Fjell and install it.
Open Fjell on your Watch once and allow Health access there. After that, start every workout from Fjell on your iPhone: the Watch app opens on its own and follows along.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Fjell, and tap Cancel Subscription (during the free trial it says Cancel Free Trial). Do it at least 24 hours before the current period ends, or it renews. In Fjell, Manage subscription in Tune, under Membership, opens the same screen.
Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Sign in on the new iPhone with the same Apple Account you subscribed with. Then open Fjell, tap the sliders button on Today to open Tune, and tap Restore purchases under Membership. The subscription screen has a Restore Purchases button too.
Your History is stored on your iPhone, so it moves with the rest of your data when you set up the new iPhone from a backup or with Quick Start.
My Watch doesn't connect or shows no heart rate.
- When you tap Start workout, keep your Watch on your wrist, unlocked and close to your iPhone. Fjell opens on your Watch on its own.
- Make sure Fjell is installed on your Watch (see the first question) and that you have opened it there once.
- Check Health permissions: in the Health app on your iPhone, tap your picture, then Apps, then Fjell, and allow heart rate and workouts.
- Wear your Watch snug during the workout.
- If the workout screen shows "No signal", heart rate has dropped out. Fjell says "Heart rate back." when it returns.
- If it still does not connect, restart your iPhone and your Watch, then try again.
You can always start with "Timer only": the cues and countdown work without a Watch.
I can't hear the voice cues.
- Turn the volume up while a workout runs. Cues use the same volume as your music.
- Open Tune (the sliders button at the top right of Today) and check that "Voice cues" and "Beeps" are on under Sound. "Spoken pace coaching" adds the halfway verdict and the push or ease-off prompts.
- Cues play from your iPhone. If you use Bluetooth headphones, connect them to your iPhone rather than your Watch, and check the audio output in Control Center.
- Cues play over your music, which keeps playing. If you turned on "Lower music during cues" and music stays quiet or stutters, turn it off.
The lock screen shows no Live Activity.
- The Live Activity appears only while a workout runs.
- Open Settings, tap Apps, then Fjell, and turn on Live Activities.
- To see it while your iPhone is locked, also turn on Live Activities under Allow Access When Locked, in Settings > Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
Then start a new workout.
How does Fjell set my zones?
Every zone is a percentage of your max heart rate, so that comes first.
- Automatic (the default): Fjell uses your best 30-second heart rate in Apple Health over the last 6 months, unless it is under 92 % of the age formula, 208 − 0.7 × age. Then it uses the formula. If Health has neither a date of birth nor a hard effort, Fjell asks you.
- Manual: set it yourself in Tune, from 140 to 220 bpm.
Tune shows both numbers, your hardest effort in Health and the age formula, with a tick next to the one in use.
The default zones are work 90 to 95 %, recovery 50 to 70 %, warm-up 60 to 75 % and cool-down 50 to 65 % of max heart rate. With a max of 186 bpm, the work zone is 167 to 177 bpm. You can change every zone in Tune, as a percentage of max or as exact bpm.
Can I use Fjell without Apple Watch?
Yes. On Today, tap "Timer only". You get the voice cues, beeps, countdown and Live Activity without heart rate, so there is no zone or halfway check. Fjell saves a plain workout to Apple Health.
Which devices does Fjell work with?
iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Apple Watch with watchOS 11 or later is optional and adds heart rate.
Where is my data, and how do I delete it?
On your iPhone and in Apple Health. There is no account, and Fjell sends nothing to us.
- To delete a workout, press and hold it in History, then tap Delete.
- Deleting the app removes everything Fjell keeps on your iPhone.
- Workouts Fjell saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
